To The Woods!

July 2, 2008

We went to look at a private wood today and carried out a survey of the site to assess how important it is for local wildlife. Below is a photo of an Azure Damselfly, read on to find out how the rest of our survey went.

Today our team – Alison, Georgie, Kerry-Ann and Lucie – met with Jane from Corfe Mullen, who took us down to Pardy’s Coppice, the site we would be surveying.

Our afternoon was spent writing up our reports, researching our finds and confirming ID of all the species we found. All very time consuming stuff, but well worth the effort.

At the end of all our hard work, we now have a long list of species and habitats to be found in the wood – and plenty of plans and ideas for what we can do to help wildlife flourish in this wonderful site!

Next stop for the team? water vole surveys tomorrow – come and have another look for a new post to see how we got on.

We really enjoyed it – looking forward to another visit when the weather improves, to put our newly aquired butterfly ID skills to the test!
