Pond Digging at Langton Matravers

May 19, 2010

Its Dans birthday!!!!!!

Today we filled two vehicles with willing volunteers to help dig a pond for Great Crested Newts that are known to be in the area. The pond was found by Rachael on a very old map and it is up to us to reinstate it.

We've only just begun

After a few minutes of scrub clearance its time to get involved with shovels and matocs. With an excellent team of Sam, Racheal, Julia, Rebecca, Catherine, David, Matt, Dan, John and of course the ever helpful Ruby!! We started to make good progress before a delicious lunch of sausages and bacon cooked to perfection by Sam, nicely rounded off by Racheals home made chocolate muffins!

Dans Birthday lunch

I hope Dan didnt both of those muffins, well it is his birthday, I suppose we can let him get away with it.

By the end of the day we had made a sizeable hole in the ground, mostly consisting of clay so with a bit of luck the pond will line itself.  The hearty lunch must have helped, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many volunteers in one hole.

Maybe theres too many people in this hole!

There is still plenty to do to get this pond up and running so watch this space for more digging exploits from the   V –Team.
